These food are uniquely endemic or extra special in Davao. There are pretty much many out there but we have cut it down for you.
1. Durian
Durian Fruit
Enjoy this fruit however you want. I happen to chance a site where durian are incorporated in dishes! You heard me right. I'm not really sure about that though, but check this site (davaocity by battad) anyways, and you'll be the judge. Get to see weird dishes like Boneless Steamed Chicken with Durian filling or Crabs in Durian Sauce.

1. Durian

We have the best durian and have the most ample supply of it anywhere in the country. That perhaps the name durian is already tantamount to Davao. You'll see piles and piles of of this dubbed 'king of the fruits' displayed alongside some streets in the city. And just about any stands, you'll see wooden tables and chairs and a freezer full of coke. What a very toxic pair yeah? It's not really advisable for you to take in both at the same time especially if you have hypertension. But then all things eaten in average amount should be fine.
Durian Candies
When bringing fruits seems like a huge pain, why not bring candies instead? I know some people who couldn't take the smell of the fruit but can enjoy the taste of it in candy, and tart form. Davao isn't short of that. You can find these in souvenir shops, and in any grocery stores. Give your loved ones a taste of this fruit and bring some home. :)
Known brands here are Apo ni Lola and Lola Abon, both of which are known to have perfected durian candy making that tourists never fail to drop in their stores and order a bunch to bring home to their loved ones.

2. Bulca Chong
I've already blogged about this before at my sister's site Davaoena In Manila. And this is one place every Davaoeno's should be proud about. The recipe of this rich and hearty soup had been passed on from generations and this is more likely a part of every davaoeno's history or landmark even when some homegrowns haven't tried this. Weird but true, but nevertheless, this is uniquely from Davao and is just deserving of the spotlight.
3. Fruits
Bloggitypoop got us varied pics of davao fruits. |
Apart from durian, every Davaoenos could boast of our abundance of fruits. We have the cheapest and one of the most wide array of fruits in the country. And in fruit season, expect yourself to be drowning in fruits, because you could find rambutan, and lanzones pricing around P20/kilo and and durian and mangosteen around P30. I've got some friends of mine stuffing themselves with fruits every time they're here.
4. Seafood
Seafood Island Got to have the best seafood set up I've ever seen. Thanks to city roamers pic I could get to show this to you. |
Here's more pics! |
Served grilled, in soup, sauced, fried, however you like them we have them all, in the freshest state you can possibly get. And can I add that they're cheap too?! I can faintly remember a story of a mother from Manila on her first visit in one of our wet markets. She was so amazed how cheaply priced our fishes here are that she bought kilos and kilos of fishes that her freezer got really packed!
5. Balot
Now I know this isn't unique in Davao alone, but if you ever happen to visit Davao for the most part of your trip, try this challenging treat! :) It's regarded as one of the 10 most disgusting things you could ever eat, but ask any locals, they would always say it isn't bad at all, matter of fact some would even swore they love it! :)
